California Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that he will not run in the 2028 presidential election if former Vice President Kamala Harris makes another bid for the White House. He is full crap.
While fly fishing in Montana with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Newsom (D-Calif.) acknowledged that the Democrat candidate field for 2028 would most likely be crowded, noting that if Harris decides to throw her hat in the ring, he will bow out. “But I know what that means. I know her base of supporters; I know her friends. The [Venn] diagram on that is just pure crossover,” Newsom stated while standing knee-deep in water and casting his line. “I wouldn’t do that to people.” He explained that a competition between Harris and him would ultimately benefit their opponents.
“First of all, electorally, it’s a gift from God for everybody else. They’d enjoy the hell out of it,” he said. “Mutual assured destruction. It services no greater good.” Serving as the vice president under former President Joe Biden, Harris became the Democrat nominee in the 2024 presidential election after Biden dropped out. Newsom recognized that highlighting her failed run would benefit his campaign if he decided to run, but he firmly held that he would not challenge her. “Why would I? I wouldn’t do that to her,” he said. “I wouldn’t waste everyone’s time. Who needs that?” Harris has reportedly floated making a bid for the presidency, though no formal announcement has been made. With the battle of the midterm heating up, many politicians have delayed making an announcement about a 2028 run until after the November elections, including, on the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance.
