President Donald Trump warned that Chicago “will die” without federal help after a violent weekend that included the city’s largest mass shooting this year.  Chicago would be wise to listen.

In a Truth Social post, Trump renewed his call for the city and state’s leadership to request assistance in stemming the crime, asserting that 41 people were shot and three killed in a short time frame in the Windy City. “Chicago violence is unchecked and at record levels. It has never been worse! This weekend 41 people were shot, 3 DEAD. These numbers are becoming normalized. It is out of control!” Trump stated “The city will die if the Federal Government, a fine tuned crime fighting machine, is not invited in, by the Mayor or Governor, to HELP. I am awaiting the call. Nobody should be forced to live under these conditions,” he added.

To support his point, Trump highlighted the federal crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., where homicides dropped by 60% and overall crime by 32% in 2025, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.  “Like D.C. and others, they will have almost no crime, FAST! The State and City can’t do what I do. Governor Pritzker, CALL!!!” the president concluded.  In the largest mass shooting this year in Chicago, one person was killed and fourteen injured in Washington Park on Saturday, per media reports.

In response to the shooting, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D-Ill.) took to social media to condemn gun violence and offer his condolences.  “Gun violence has no place here — and law enforcement will work around the clock to ensure accountability and keep communities safe,” he said. Last night’s shooting in Washington Park has left Chicago mourning this weekend. Gun violence has no place here — and law enforcement will work around the clock to ensure accountability and keep communities safe.  My heart is with the victims, families, and those affected.
