Can The World's Mightiest Naval Fleet Survive The Perfect Storm?
It was a once-in-a-decade display of American firepower. Three US Navy aircraft carriers -- the largest, most sophisticated warships in history -- assembled off the Korean Peninsula, in a move timed to coincide with US President Donald Trump's first official visit to the region. But behind the dramatic show of force, questions are emerging as to whether the US Navy is up to the challenges it faces in the Pacific -- from both a nuclear-armed North Korea and a strengthening China -- at a time when its top leaders acknowledge it lacks the money, manpower and weapons to ensure success.  CNN

Trump Takes Credit For Security Wins
President Donald Trump, in a Thanksgiving address to troops, credited his policies for allowing progress in Afghanistan and against Islamic State, and warned about sending sophisticated weapons to American allies that one day could become the enemy. “Everybody is talking about the progress you’ve made in the last few months since I opened it up,” Trump told the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, during a morning video call from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. “We’re not fighting anymore to just walk around. The Math Behind Mark Cuban’s Trump Tweet
The market value of Chinese companies listed outside China is sneaky large, something that American billionaire Mark Cuban hinted at in a tweet aimed at President Donald Trump. Chinese companies with their primary equity listings in Hong Kong and not traded on the mainland have a combined market value of more than $2 trillion, data compiled by Bloomberg show. That includes market cap leader Tencent Holdings Ltd. The biggest 130 companies with a primary listing in the U.S., such as Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Baidu Inc. and JD.com Inc., add about $900 billion. That’s about parity with Brazil’s equity market capitalization. Bloomberg

Health Care Should Be A Right, But The US Doesn't Have A 'System'
Is health care a privilege or a right? That may be the most contentious question in the whole health care debate. When he was president, George W. Bush felt the need to address this question by saying that we have universal care in this country because anyone can "just go to an emergency room." But there is a big difference between going to the ER because you have no insurance versus having health insurance that allows you to go to a doctor or clinic of your choice when you are sick, or think you might have a problem. In general, people with health insurance tend to get help earlier, when it usually is less costly and more effective. ABC News

Congressional Russia Probes Likely To Head Into 2018
Some Republicans are hoping lawmakers will soon wrap up investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election that have dragged on for most of the year. But with new details in the probe emerging almost daily, that seems unlikely. Three congressional committees are investigating Russian interference and whether President Donald Trump's campaign was in any way involved. The panels have obtained thousands of pages of documents from Trump's campaign and other officials, and have done dozens of interviews. ABC News

Trump Tweets Response To Post On How He Treats African-Americans
President Trump on Thanksgiving morning did not help ease the tension in his ongoing public spat with the father of a UCLA basketball player when he responded to a tweet in which a Washington Post opinion writer described how Mr. Trump's treatment of LaVar Ball is a part of a larger trend in how he treats prominent African-Americans. "New post: Trump's rage-tweets about LaVar Ball are a part of a pattern," Greg Sargent wrote on Twitter Wednesday, along with a link to his opinion piece.  CBS News

Flynn Breaks With Trump Team On Mueller Probe

A person familiar with the move tells The Associated Press that Flynn's legal team communicated the decision this week. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. Eight 'North Korean Fishermen' Wash Ashore In Japan
A boat carrying eight men claiming to be North Korean fishermen has washed ashore the coast in Japan. Japanese police said the men were found at Yurihonjo city's marina late on Thursday, and taken into custody. The men had told authorities that their boat experienced difficulties and they ended up drifting into Japanese waters. Japan regularly sees North Korean fishing boats straying into its territory, and its coastguard has occasionally had to rescue fishermen. But sometimes the boats - often simple or rickety vessels - are found with bodies onboard, indicating that the vessels had been drifting for some time. BBC

Trump Hails 'Invisible' Plane In Remarks To Coast Guard
Donald Trump returned to a favourite subject on Thursday, telling a US coast guard audience the air force was ordering a new plane that was “almost like an invisible fighter”. The plane in question, the F-35, is not invisible, though it is unusually small and designed to be less visible to radar than conventional aircraft. Its development, however, has proved all too visibly costly and riddled with problems. Guardian

Why Can't America Have A Single Tolling System?
IN A PERFECT world, the electronic tolling infrastructure in the United States would be Mastercard seamless: Any transponder would get you through any toll plaza, debiting your account as you breeze across bridges and through tunnels with interstate abandon. But you can't. You should be able to though: In 2012 Congress passed a law requiring the nation's various electronic tolling authorities to come together and make their systems interoperable by October 2016. Should be easy, right? Transponders are simple radio devices. Pop them all on the same frequency, job done. Wired
