Trump Strikes At The Heart Of The North Korean Regime With Speech
President Trump has said on several occasions that he’s willing talk to the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Well, on Wednesday, Trump did — after a fashion. The American president directly addressed his 33-year-old nemesis during his speech to South Korea’s National Assembly. This time, Trump didn’t call Kim “Little Rocket Man” or use the kinds of rhetorical flourishes that play so well on Twitter.  Washington Post

Short Of Impeachment, 6 Ways Congress Can Limit Trump Damage To America
Thanks to Donald Trump’s disregard for the law, ethics and norms of presidential behavior, it’s clear our government of laws needs serious reform. We should amend the Constitution to limit presidential pardons and make it easier to remove unfit presidents. That will be complicated, and could take years. Fortunately, most reform can be passed by Congress now, in a six-part Save America Act.  USA Today

With Virginia, Voters Give Democrats First Big Wins Of The Trump Era
Voters delivered their first forceful rebuke of President Trump and his party on Tuesday night, with Democrats exploiting Mr. Trump’s deep unpopularity to capture the governorships in Virginia and New Jersey and make significant inroads into suburban communities that once favored the Republican Party. The Democratic Party’s crowning success of the night came in Virginia, where Lt. Gov. Ralph S. Northam, an understated physician and Army veteran, won a commanding victory for governor, overcoming a racially charged campaign by his Republican opponent and cementing Virginia’s transformation into a reliably Democratic state largely immune to Trump-style appeals. VOA VIEW: Only a big win to the liberal media - expected from liberal states.

One Year Later: For Trump, The 2016 Election Is Ever-Present
Donald Trump handily won the election a year ago Wednesday. Ask him and he'll tell you about it. Ten months into his presidency, Trump is still focused — some say fixated — on the election that catapulted him to power. Egged on by longtime friends and cable news, he repeatedly attacks his vanquished opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton. In public and in private, he still boasts of the size of his victory. Brazile Blasts 'Incompetence' In Response To Email Hack At Wasserman Schultz-led DNC
Donna Brazile's newly released 2016 campaign tell-all accuses the FBI and the Democratic National Committee she used to lead of a bungled response to the email hacks that threw the party into turmoil last summer. In “Hacks,” Brazile writes that she only learned of the breach in early June 2016 when then-DNC Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz informed her and other party officials that The Washington Post was set to publish a story on the matter. Brazile describes Wasserman Schultz' tone as "so casual." Fox

North Korea's Nuclear Test Site Causing 'Deformed Babies,' Killing Vegetation
North Korea’s crippling nuclear test site is turning the area into a “wasteland” where “deformed babies” are being born and 80 percent of vegetation dies off due to nuclear radiation, nearly two dozen defectors told a South Korean newspaper Monday. The Research Association of Vision of North Korea interviewed 21 North Korean defectors who lived in Kilju, a nearby town north of the Punngye-ri nuclear test site where six tests have been conducted, and said babies were reportedly being born with birth defects and residents feared radiation contamination because of the high mortality rate for any form of life, South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reported.. 'Be Quiet! It's Him!' Survivors Say Shooter Walked Pew By Pew Looking For People To Shoot
The carnage started even before the gunman entered the church. It was a gorgeous day in Sutherland Springs, and worshipers at First Baptist Church were singing the praises of Christ. Suddenly, the joyous prayers were drowned out by screams of terror. "Out of nowhere, shots started coming through the windows," said David Brown, whose mother was sitting in the back pew. "Windows broke out. Shots were flying." CNN

The three-member board said Tuesday that Officer Caesar Goodson did not violate any department policies the day Gray was fatally injured in police custody. Trump Says Chicago Is Proof Stronger Gun Laws Don’t Work
Once again, President Donald Trump pointed to Chicago crime to say that stricter gun laws wouldn't necessarily stop the spate of mass shootings or gun violence across the country. Here’s Where The GOP Tax Bill Stands Right Now
The House tax-writing committee is entering its second day of work Tuesday to hammer out the details of the Republican tax cut plan. Here are the latest developments, updated throughout the day: Representative Peter Roskam, head of the House Ways and Means tax policy subcommittee, said an amendment that would have preserved the deduction for state and local taxes and pared a proposed cut to the corporate tax rate to pay for the change was defeated by voice vote. Soldiers, Jumping Children Greet Trump At Beijing Airport
China pulled out all the stops for President Donald Trump's Beijing airport arrival: honor guard, marching band, jumping children. The ceremony accompanying Trump's arrival Wednesday afternoon was elaborate even by China's lavish standards. Heads of state are usually given a low-key reception at the airport, with the real pomp and circumstance reserved for his or her arrival at the Great Hall of the People in the center of Beijing. Congressman Walks Out Of Moment Of Silence For Texas Victims
Ted Lieu wasn’t going to sit through another moment of silence, he said. So Lieu, a Democratic congressman, didn’t join his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives for a moment of silence Monday night for the victims of the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, that left 26 churchgoers dead and at least 20 more injured. His walkout was intended to send a message that the time for action — and, more specifically, stricter gun laws — is now, he said. “I’m heartbroken about the children and adults that were killed in the worst mass shooting in Texas history this Sunday,” he said in a live video posted to Facebook. Louder And Faster: Trump Has Changed Washington More Than Washington Has Changed Him
In the year since his election, Donald Trump has changed Washington more than Washington has changed him. With that, the nation’s 45th president has upended yet another norm — in this case, the assumption that moving into the White House will have a sobering impact on a newly elected commander in chief. Facing awesome responsibilities and the sudden responsibility for governing, a new president typically moves to moderate his rhetoric and reach out to old foes, at least for a while. They adjust campaign promises to acknowledge political realities and competing power centers. Indy Star

Mattis Tells Pentagon To ‘Find Out What’s Going On’ With Failure To Report Texas Massacre Suspect
Defense Secretary James Mattis said Tuesday he has instructed the Pentagon watchdog to “find out what’s going on” with the Air Force’s failure to report the Texas church shooting suspect’s criminal history. “If the problem is we didn’t put something out, we’ll correct that,” said Mr. Mattis, as reported by The Associated Press. The Air Force launched a review Monday after admitting that Holloman Air Force Base neglected to submit the criminal history of former Airman Devin Patrick Kelley to the FBI’s National Criminal Information Center, the federal database for background checks involving firearms purchases. Operation Harpoon: How The Mossad And Israeli NGO Destroyed Terrorist Money Networks
Former government sources have told The Jerusalem Post that Israel’s Operation Harpoon, carried out by a range of Mossad, Shin Bet and other operatives, was revolutionary in that it was “not just about following the money, but about destroying terrorists’ money networks.” Sources who had close personal contact with Meir Dagan (1945-2016) indicate that the idea of elevating the thwarting of terrorism financing to a primary mission of intelligence agencies was an uphill battle for the legendary Mossad chief and Harpoon founder. Ted Cruz Is Pushing To Include Obamacare Mandate Repeal In Tax Bill
Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is pushing to keep alive the idea of including a repeal of Obamacare’s individual mandate in the tax overhaul plan, even as House Republicans struggle with how to address an issue that threatens to complicate the tax debate. At a news conference Tuesday, Cruz said it’s vital to use the tax legislation to end the mandate that all Americans have health insurance or pay a penalty. If nothing else, he said, doing so will in effect be a tax cut for the 6.5 million Americans who now pay a penalty because they don’t have health insurance coverage. Bloomberg

Liberal Congressman Labels Black Pro-Life Woman As 'Ignorant'
After pro-life and pro-marriage leader Star Parker -- a black woman who had four abortions early in her life -- testified that it was dishonest to focus on Medicaid and food stamps when Planned Parenthood and abortion are decimating black communities, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) said Parker's remarks revealed her "ignorance" and "inability to deal with Congress people" properly. Trump: 'Hundreds More Dead' In Texas With Stricter Gun Laws
President Donald Trump on Tuesday lauded the civilian who shot and helped to subdue the gunman who killed 26 in a small Texas church, saying “hundreds more” would be dead without his heroism and stronger gun restrictions are “not going to help” prevent mass shootings. “If you did what you’re suggesting, there would have been no difference three days ago,” Trump told a reporter who asked if he is considering “extreme vetting” of gun buyers. The top Democrat on the House committee probing Russian election meddling said Tuesday that America's "democracy is under threat" from Russia — and also from President Donald Trump. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said Trump is trying to undermine the investigations and the nation's news media. "I do feel our democracy is under threat," Schiff said in an Associated Press interview. Pain Relievers Worked As Well As Opioids In ER Patients
Emergency rooms are where many patients are first introduced to powerful opioid painkillers, but what if doctors offered over-the-counter pills instead? A new study tested that approach on patients with broken bones and sprains and found pain relievers sold as Tylenol and Motrin worked as well as opioids at reducing severe pain. The results challenge common ER practice for treating short-term, severe pain and could prompt changes that would help prevent new patients from becoming addicted. Las Vegas Sun

Trump Sent Bodyguard To McDonald’s Because White House Chefs Couldn’t Reproduce Quarter Pounder
It looks like the president loves late-night McDonald’s runs. It turns out that Keith Schiller — who is set to be grilled by the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday about a 2013 trip to Moscow and the 35-page dossier (yes, the one about the alleged “golden showers”) as part of the ongoing investigation into collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign — would go to Mickey D’s at Trump’s behest when White House chefs fell short. “When the White House kitchen staff couldn’t match the satisfaction of a quarter-pounder with cheese (no pickles, extra ketchup) and a fried apple pie, it was Schiller, bodyguard and Trump whisperer, who would head down New York Avenue to McDonald’s on a stealth fast food run,” Politico wrote in their recent profile of Schiller. Kelly's Ex-Deputy Readies For Own DHS Confirmation Hearing
Kirstjen Nielsen helped shepherd President Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security secretary pick through his Senate confirmation process. Now she's got her own team guiding her through those same hoops. Trump surprised many in his administration when he announced his decision to nominate Nielsen to run the sprawling agency, which has been leading the charge on implementing Trump's aggressive immigration agenda. Nielsen had served as former DHS Secretary John Kelly's top deputy early in the Trump administration, and she moved with him to the White House when he was elevated to Trump's chief of staff. Trump’s Poor Climate Record Sends America’s Green Business To China
Tesla knew just where to look when the California company decided to expand its business in manufacturing electric cars: China. The country has moved quickly to fill a leadership void created by the United States when President Donald Trump rolled back American efforts to fight climate change. And, in a development likely to irritate the businessman-turned-president, China is making money doing it. “Two countries went side-by-side tackling this issue,” said Ma Jun, a prominent Chinese environmentalist and a director with the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs in Beijing. Texas Officials Opt Not To Use Gunman's Name: 'We Do Not Want To Glorify Him'
In a Monday media briefing less than 24 hours after a gunman killed 26 worshippers and wounded 20 others at a small Baptist church in rural Texas, authorities provided their first detailed account of the killer’s motives and methods and formally identified him. But in an evening update, as information continued to emerge about Devin Kelley’s tactics and his name and pictures proliferated as reporters dug into his background, officials said they would no longer refer to the 26-year-old by name. Why Government's Fear Of Data Threatens Us All
IN THE AFTERMATH of the massacre of 26 people in a small-town Texas church, you might have seen that the killer used a gun called an AR-15. It’s a popular weapon—relatively easy to use, endlessly customizable, military in appearance. How popular? It’s the same gun that a killer used in the massacre of 58 people at a Las Vegas concert last month, and by the killer who murdered 49 people in a nightclub in Orlando, and the one at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. And the movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. And the party in San Bernardino, California. Wired
