ONE AMERICA
 By Chester Barns

I am an American that happened to be born black.  I am not an African American. I had no more control of the color of my skin than I had of who my parents are.  I am as proud of my skin color, as I am of my parents.  I have a high school education and only earn $12.75 an hour.  I may not have much, but I am a proud person.  I don't need special consideration because I am black.

I want whites to know that there are many blacks like me that want to stand on their own two feet and don't dwell on the past.  We don't hate whites, nor do we think whites owe blacks anything.

I want blacks to know that it is time to stop living in the past. Blacks must stop blaming the fact that they were born black for all their problems.  Slavery has been over for a long time.  Whites are not the cause of our problems.  We should not allow ourselves to be used by those who profit by our problems.

Let's learn to live together as one nation.  A real color blind nation.  I am spending my own money to bring this message and future messages to all.

Thanks for reading my message.  I will add more from time to time.
